The Brain Injury Alliance of New Jersey offers the following programs and services, injury prevention and education initiatives targeted to all age groups throughout the state. Information and Resources service through which people with brain injury, family members and professionals can gain a better understanding of brain injury, rehabilitation services, legal and medical resources. A Toll-free Family Helpline is available and is designed to assist individuals and families with specific requests. This support begins at the initial time of the brain injury and continues throughout the long-term rehabilitation and recovery process. The Alliance?s Information and Resource helpline handled more than 2,500 calls for help last year. Support Groups allow persons with brain injury and family members to meet with others in similar situations, gain invaluable emotional support and friendships, obtain information and resources, and hear speakers discuss a variety of brain injury topics. Currently 20 affiliated groups represent 20 counties. Family Support provides care coordination and helps families? access services and supports that maintain and enhance the quality of life for the individual with a brain injury and his or her family. This program is available to support those injured before the age of 22. This program is far reaching offering specialized care coordination, including assistance with resources and emotional support to more than 200 families each year. TREK (Together in Recreation, Exploration and Knowledge) provides a week-long summer independent skills building experience for individuals with brain injury and a respite opportunity for their families. Education - provides information about brain injury research, brain injury prevention and resources to persons with brain injuries, family members, school systems, employers, healthcare and human service personnel as well as the general public. One two-day seminar, a series of regional seminars on brain injury, brain injury basics sessions and sessions for parents and school professionals are provided. Outreach ? provides information about brain injury and resources to professionals working with people with brain injury through exhibiting and training opportunities. Advocacy & Public Affairs - maintains a voice in government and promotes policy that prevents brain injury and enhances the care, services and supports available to people with brain injury. TBI Fund Public Information and Prevention Education Program - promotes the Traumatic Brain Injury Fund, providing outreach and prevention information about brain injury to those directly affected by it and to the general public.

Our vision is a world where all individuals with brain injury and their caregivers maximize their quality of life, the consequences of all unavoidable brain injuries are minimized and all preventable brain injuries are prevented. The Brain Injury Alliance of New Jersey, Inc. is a not-for-profit corporation established in 1981 (originally called the head injury association of NJ and then the Brain Injury Association of New Jersey). The Alliance was created by family members of individuals who had sustained brain injuries and several treating healthcare professionals from JFK Johnson Rehabilitation Institute in Edison, NJ.
